What I missed about Stat was our lunchouts. When we were still at Main, we do lunchouts almost every week. Not to mention the bondings and open forums done once a month. These somehow made us bonded not only with work but how we relate with each other. I really miss that. So I'm starting this lunchouts every payday to relive the fire of the bond. Hope it's not too late...

1-tailed or 2-tailed

Nakakatuwa talaga pag ang mga geeks eh nagdedebate. Labasan ng mga evidentiary (may term bang ganito?) supports! Todo research agad sa internet at labas ng mga nagkakapalang libro. At pag hindi pa rin nagkasundo eh tawag na sa lifeline. Thanks ulit Wendz! Anyways, the question is: ano ba mas strict? 1-tailed or 2-tailed tests?! Thanks Pepsi for giving us the chance to review our rusty statistical test theories. LOL

So ano nga bang sagot? 2-tailed tests are stricter. Why? According to Sir Wendz, 1-tailed tests are just directional. In order to reject the null hypothesis, we have to prove just one scenario: either mu1 is greater than or less than mu2. But in 2-tailed tests, you have to prove both. You have to prove that mu1 is less than AND at the same time greater than mu2. By then it's safe to say that both means are statistically different. Hmm. Tama ba Wendz? Patay baka ibalik ako sa Stat115 nito haha.

If you want to test the difference of two means or proportions at 95% level of significance using 1-tailed, then  just test it at 90% level of significance at 2-tailed. Same goes if you want to test parity of two means using 1-tailed test, then test it at 80% level of significance using 2-tailed.

There you go, my very first Stat-is-Geek entry. Will try to post more. Maybe about survey and sampling so that presidentiables like Gordon can shut the hell up! Hindi ako galit. Hindi po talaga!. LOL

statsoc fund raiser: baller id

Once again, StatSoc is asking for your help. BOD 09-10 have a fundraiser which is the StatSocer baller ID. Only P65.00 per piece (originally may promo sila na 2 for P110 pero since mababait naman tayo eh let's just stick with the regular price of P65). Tulong na rin natin to for StatSoc, and syempre collectible na rin hehe.

I've ordered 30pcs na makukuha ko today. Just thought na nagiging excuse ng alumni na tumulong because of distance and effort magpunta ng UP. So eto, yung baller IDs na yung lalapit sa atin hehe.

For Ortigas people, please send me a message for your orders. Dito lang naman ako San Miguel Ave. so I can meet you up. Please relay na rin sa officemates and friends nyo. For Eastwood people (mainly Citibankers), you can send your orders to Carissa. Whehehe ninominate na kita Carsh! So far may more than 10 orders na from Citi. Papahuli ba naman ang mga taga Metrobank, SCB, at BDO?! hehehe.

Anyways, just felt like helping again the org so nagvolunteer na ko to coordinate with the alumni. Please do help us (StatSoc) in relaying this to other alumni. Please let me know kung may madadagdag so pwede pa ko umorder ng mas madami today. Dont you worry, this isn't a hoax at wala akong kikitain dito haha.

2008 UP stat alumni homecoming

Last December 6, all roads (for Stat alumni that is) lead to the UP Bahay ng Alumni for the UP School of Statistics Alumni Homecoming. And as usual, we were late. Thanks to our addiction to Timezone and the movie Four Christmases. Personally, I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to watch UP Pep. I was literally running from the parking space of the venue towards the front steps of the Bahay ng Alumni. But to no avail, we were late. Really late. AARRRGGGHH!

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the night, Seeing familiar faces, even faces I'd rather not see. Nyahaha. Seriously, it was nice seeing people from the HIGHER BATCHES haha!

I just have a few angst, other than not seeing my beloved PEP. First, well we didn't win any prize from the raffle. Sayang yung SAS license worth 100k! Pwede na ding ibenta yun haha! The food was stale (even the iced tea na lasang gulaman), hindi pa nirefill so hindi nakatikim ng pasta yung iba. Pero masarap yung leche flan! At yang pledge na yan! Grrr! hahaha. Hindi kami prepared. Di sana nakapagwithdraw kami ng mas malaki. *joke lang *

And syempre, ang sakit pa din ng baba ko Rosalia! Para akong in-uppercut. Yun nga lang ulo ang ginamit! Waaah!
